Being Yourself Is Your Greatest Opportunity | Meeting with Charli D'Amelio

We all see viral videos on social media and wonder how they blew up and what sort of secrets they used to gain so much traction. Gary sat down with viral TikTok user Charli D’Amelio and her family to talk about their experience after having one video explode on the platform. The biggest themes throughout the conversation are that nothing was intentionally done to make her videos go viral and that she was sharing her passion for dancing, which she has been practicing since she was 4 years old, with the world. She didn’t try to conform to a popular trend on TikTok or do what everyone else was doing. Charli just shared the thing she was passionate about and if you do the same, you can start building your own community and brand around what you enjoy.

  7. Insane how “normal” people that are simply nothing more or less than themselves & sharing a tiny bit of passion / good vibes on social can get absolutely HUGE – great interview 🙌🏼🙌🏼

  8. To those who think Gary interrupts, as a fellow "ENFP" – He knows that not all can SEE or ARTICULATE the vision/word, and that it is VITAL to the conveyance of value to usher it in.

It is an art to understand the balance, but do you really think most people you know have those capabilities? Even if they have value in their own ways?

my .02 on this one 🙂

  9. Blinds down at 2:36 – Youre the real MVP, signed, a video producer hahaha ❤️

  10. I started TikTok for fun and to build rapport with my students at school (I'm a school teacher)… then Gary came in and said "Go HARD on TikTok"… so I did, now I have over 43,000 followers in less than 3 months, it's growing at about 1k followers every day and it's having a positive effect on my Instagram and YouTube channel. Crazy times #garyveechallenge

  21. Great content Gary! I think you could improve upon your manners as a host of a podcast. You interrupt them when they are speaking quite often

  22. She is literal proof that people can be overnight celebrities! I’m glad she got the luck of the draw but my statement is 100 percent correct!

  23. Your free advice is priceless. Thank you GaryVee. Your tips helped me start my channel and most importantly commit and have no what ifs later on in life. Make sure to give it your all cause you only have one life! Thank you!!

  24. Ok, Gary I respect you, I really do.
    But this is just insane.

Are we really gonna pretend like this is what people should strive to become? Are we really gonna pretend that TikTok is something more than a platform where talentless people whose only good quality is their pretty looks enjoy ungodly amounts of attention for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING?
This is what I don't understand. Why are we praising mediocrity?

Let's face it. This girl became popular just because of her looks, this is NOT a skill, she didn't earn it. That is true for almost all big TikTok "celebrities".

And for some reason you all act like having good looks and repeating the same stupid dance after everyone else is some kind of grand achievement.

Somebody please explain this to me. Really.

I'm lost here. What's the point of trying to make money by doing something useful when the thing that actually gets attention is something that brings ABSOLUTELY no value to people?

There are so many special people out there, who genuinely have talent and useful skills, and yet here we are praising a teenager who's got nothing but good looks and tons of free time on her hands.

At this point nothing makes sense anymore. There is no strategy in life I guess, it's just random shit that makes you successful. Some people get lucky and others eat shit for the rest of their lives.

I'm done. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

  25. What waittttt.s she's 15?????

  26. Charlie sis got more than 1m likes and all she did was eat a banana.

  27. What a great family. I don’t know these girls at all, but the parents are to be commended for helping them stay grounded in the midst of a scenario that few people will ever experience.

  28. Charli: says something

    Gary: “that’s interesting”

  29. Tic Toc is literally the dotcom bubble.

  30. TikTok is legit. I thought my entire YouTube potential was over in 2014, but starting twice daily content on my TikTok 4 months ago amassed me over 58,000 followers on that platform. Now my TikTok series has developed into longer formats on my YouTube channel and has brought me well over 300 new dedicated subscribers. People just love authentic people doing interesting things.
